Bienenstock Entry#1: Mood Board & Concept

Hey guys! This is the beginning of something big! The Bienenstock Design Competition! This project is based around a specific client who has invested in two row houses in upstate New York that they have converted into a three story open space for a new art gallery. The first and second floors will be used as gallery space as the third will be the couple’s private living quarters. This project has to follow commercial coding for lighting requirements, fire safety requirements, accessibility requirements, etc.

To begin brainstorming about a concept, I created a mood board. A mood board is primarily for portraying a concept with the used of pictures. I wanted to go for a deeper color pallet instead of using a lot of white within the space. I feel like it helps to accent the architecture and history of the building itself.

This board features images of sample materials and inspiration that will visually represent the concept.

Concept:

The goal of this design is to preserve the history and architecture of the existing building by giving it a modernized twist. The new design of the gallery space will feature innovative and technological exhibits that stimulate the senses which will submerge the viewer into a world of art. The new gallery will act as a way of unifying the community by bringing something totally new to the area. The viewers will gain knowledge and appreciation of old and new art from experiencing this gallery.

This is a new and exciting project and I’m excited to see my ideas and designs develop! Stay tuned!
